"One of the greatest riddles of biology is why the experience of pain is so subjective. Being able to withstand pain depends to a considerable extent on culture and tradition... Of course, there are those who welcome pain in order to surmount it... we also like to keep checking these limits regularly to see if they've changed"(101,102).

This excerpt inspired me to create a make a sort of pin cushion out of a couple of socks and needles as well as a visual representation of the idea of pain. To me, needles can be associated with pain in a number of ways, ad by using something like a pin cushion to represent skin, and the layers of socks creating different levels of  resistance to the pins that acted as the varying levels of tolerance and/or resistance that each person has towards pain. Additionally the blanket and the wood are meant to symbolize the same thing, with the red bandana as a representation of blood, in the sense that pain can cause blood no matter how seemingly tough someone is.
